• What are interlocking Concrete Paving Stones?

  Interlocking Concrete Paving Stones are manufactured concrete products. Using compaction and higher cement levels, concrete pavers are individual ‘stones’ made to higher density specifications than most concrete products. When combined with additional paving stones, a flat surface is created by interlocking the stones. Unique and attractive designs result, creating a preferable surface for sidewalks, patios, pool decks, and driveways. Interlocking Concrete Pavers have been successfully used in hard-use commercial applications for years, where other materials have not fared as well. This is the ideal product for most homeowners.

• How strong are Pavers?

  Most people do not realize that paving stones are several times stronger than concrete. Whereas concrete is tested to withstand 2000-psi (pounds per sq in.) paving stones are tested in excess of 4,000-psi. The mortarless, flexible, interlocking system won’t crack or heave as a result of ground movement. Ugly patches are a thing of the past. Unfortunately concrete, stamp, and asphalt can’t make this claim.

• What is a Paver’s life cycle?

  Paving stones should last over 40 years, which is much longer than alternative pavements, under normal residential use. The concept of interlocking pavers dates back over 2000 years ago to the Roman Empire. The Romans developed a simple system for building roads. Some of the roads are still in use today!

• Can I place Interlocking Concrete Pavers over existing concrete?

  Pavers can be used as an overlay over existing concrete patios and walkways as well as asphalt driveways. Costs incurred for removal and disposal of existing asphalt or concrete are therefore eliminated. If your existing patio is in good condition, there can be cracks in the old patio as long as it is not unlevel in any area. Concrete makes a great base for laying pavers. The border of the project will still need to be retained. Any time we are overlaying an existing patio it is important to recognize how much room we have between the existing patio and the threshold of your door and or Garage. Our typical paver is 2 3/8 to 3 1/8 inches tall. There has to be enough room for us to overlay the patio without raising the new level above your Door’s or Garages threshold. • Can I use Interlocking Concrete Pavers in my Driveway?

  Absolutely! Proper grading, compaction and gravel base must be considered. Contact your Strong Rock Pavers sales rep for further details and guidance.

• What’s the difference between a Driveway’s Foundation and a Patio, Porch, or Walkway’s Foundation?

  • A Driveway will take a Dense Stability Fabric between soil and road base, 10-12” of State Spec Road Base, 1” of Concrete Sand Bedding, then your pavers
  • A Patio, Porch, Walkway and lighter traffic areas only need 6-8 of Road Base, 1” of concrete sand bedding, then your pavers.
  • This may vary from job to job. Especially if you have a pet Elephant!
  • Southern Utah, Arizona, and Florida will require lesser amounts of road base if any at all!

• Can pavers be used in different areas such as around pool, on basketball court, or even decks?

  Yes! Concrete pavers can be used in almost any application, and is the best choice for most. The colors and patterns available can be used to enhance your backyard and pool. There are smoother, thinner, larger, smaller… pavers for all applications. Did you know…?

  Interlocking pavers are an engineered pavement system used at airports, taxiways, container ports, and industrial or corporate campuses as well as on streets for urban renewal projects.

• How do I remove oil stains, paint marks, or stucco from my pavers?

  The quickest way would be to use any kind of commercial cleaner or soap and water with a power washer. If needed a paver can easily be flipped over or completely replaced with an extra paver left by Strong Rock Pavers.

• What is used on the paver edge?

  The only two places concrete is actually applied to pavers are underneath the edge on the border and underneath paver steps. Its not something you should be able to kick out of place.

• How do I keep the sand in the paver joints?

  In conjunction with the interlock pattern of your pavers, the sand used in the paver joints serves to ‘lock’ the stones in place. It will naturally wash out from the top-most joint area. If joint depth exceeding a quarter inch to half inch is visible, sweep additional sand into the joints. Joint sealers are available to seal the sand in place.

• How thick are concrete pavers?

  Interlocking Concrete Pavers are available in 60mm, 80mm, and 100mm thickness. Depending on the structural demand of the paver surface to be built. Typical residential applications will use the 60mm product for Driveway, Patios, etc.

• I need additional lighting for safety, how do I achieve this?

  There are a number of paving styles in which low voltage lighting is available so that you can put light directly in the surface of your paved area or steps. They look great, marking and lighting the immediate area.

• Should I seal the surface of my pavers?

  Sealing concrete pavers is a personal choice. It can enhance the colors and light reflectivity, but must be properly applied after cleaning, and may be applied every 3-5 years if wanted. It will also assist in ‘sealing the joint sand in place, often preferred in pool decks. Many prefer the natural ‘aging’ of a paved concrete surface.
